that's actually exactly what happened! i thought it looked great but then saw how shiny it was. with these sorts of ____ x _____ things, who's actually making it? did ovadia design it and gap made it?

From the little I’ve read about this whole collab, it’s Gap that reached out to GQ for a “partnership” to try to get their 6 new menswear designers to build a collection. All parties benefit from this as GAP is one of America’s biggest brands, known for their basics, and GQ being the leading menswear/lifestyle magazine in the world(?). Gap has their name plastered in GQ which has more of the higher end shoppers, and GQ has their name plastered anything Gap, which encompasses… everyone from toddlers to the richest mofos on the earth.

I digress… but to answer your question, I’m not 100% sure about who actually makes it but I am almost certain that the 6 designers brought their designs and presented it infront of GQ and Gap representatives, so if that’s the case, I believe it’s Gap that’s in charge of production and the designers are in charge of… well… designing it. Again, I am not 100% about this so if I’m wrong, someone let us know what the deal is. Maybe someone at GQ or GAP or even at any of those design firms reads my blog and can straighten this out for us? kthxbai

I was inspired to rock some denim on denim today after reading a pretty insightful piece on GQ (source)

New Balance has gone global for its latest collaboration, working with four influential boutiques from all corners of the world: Boston’s Bodega, Kilates from Barcelona, Kasina in Seoul and Tokyo’s Mita. Each shop tackled the brand’s 581 model, reinterpreting it in designs and materials representing each region, from Bodega’s play on a boldly colored 90’s ski jacket to Kasina’s menswear-inspired tweed trainer (um, sick). If you’re looking to get your hands on the limited-edition kicks, but lacking the jet-setter lifestyle, Barneys has all four styles available for pre-order now. Get on it.

$120 each, available at Barneys.com.

I’m not much of a NB fan but I do appreciate and respect these type of collaborations. I mean, to have reps from Boston, Barcelona, Seoul and Tokyo to work on a shoe is just insane. I can only imagine how much fun they all had working together, homogenizing their thoughts into their designs. Each designer had to have brought their own culture, history, experience, inspiration and influences with them to work on such a collaboration and it’s incredible to see the product of such things coming together. I hope one day I can actually witness this kind of collaboration first hand but on a more epic proportion because NB is… kinda… well… they’re just… New Balance.

Anyone go to the pop up shop in meatpacking this weekend? What did you think about it?

thesigother:

Last week I spoke with Nick about how this new men’s Pop-up shop went from idea to reality. During our conversation it became clear just how much thought and expertise he and his team dedicated to the project, and how much they’ve raised the bar for men’s retail.
