Taper

After 3 weeks of waiting, I finally got my jeans back from Denim Therapy. Here are my thoughts:

I dropped off a pair of selvedge denim at Denim Therapy and they charged me $40 for it. I figured, why not, they must do something special, or something really well.

They also wanted $40 for tapering my Levi’s 501 and random Gap jeans, I said no on those and took the Levi’s and Gap to the dry cleaner across the street. They pinned me exactly the same as Denim Therapy but charged me $15 each and promised to have it done in 2 days. I picked it up 2 days later and they came out perfect. Exactly what I asked for.

Denim Therapy also did a stellar job. Probably the same as the dry cleaner who tapered the jeans from the inseam, even though the jeans weren’t selvedged.

Moral of the story? Don’t throw down $40 and wait 3 weeks for a taper when you can get it done at a dry cleaner for less than half the price, and in 48 hours.

Everybody knows denim game be real stressful. I’ve been on the hunt for a nice pair of selvedge jeans that doesn’t make my ass look flat as an ipad. I don’t know why I’ve always overlooked jeans from J. crew, but J. Crew joints are extremely soft, probably 10oz denim so it’s not the heaviest denim, but that makes it so much more softer. Most of the selvedge denim I have (Gap, Tellason, 7, Levis) are quite heavy and stiff, but these feel almost broken in already, they feel similar to the 501s i’ve had for over 3 years. I’m normally a 32 waist but like most jcrew stuff, they tend to run a bit big so I opted for the 31. The waist fits perfectly and the thighs have maybe half a centimeter of room to breathe, which is perfect. The sales rep at the store assured me that the jeans are not even broken in yet, and after a few wears that the waist and leg openings will break in nicely. its too damn hot to wear jeans during the day, but im hoping to get some wears during the evenings.

On that note, anyone know if selvedged denim can be tapered like any other jeans? Do I have to give the tailor any special instructions when doing this?

No taper needed, just did some measuring and with a 7.75” hem, I think this is perfect for my frame. I don’t want to look like there are twigs holding up this ~180lbs of MAN.

P.S - The pants were $131 with student discount! Always use that student discount! Even if you’re no longer a student, just show them your ID… it’s not like they run it through a database to see that you’re still enrolled.

Where can I get some slim fitting jeans that I will be able to roll up as well?

Kiiiiinda tough to say without a budget but here are two of my favorites, and one that I plan on purchasing real soon.

1. Levi’s 511 Commuter - Dependable/quality jeans that stand behind the name. These 511s are waterproof and slightly stretchy so it’s really comfortable to move around in. They also have a reflective inner cuff when you roll them up which gives a pretty unique look in my opinion

2. Gap 1969 (skinny) - Believe it or not, Gap has some good quality denim. It also fits me pretty well. Most jeans, including most 511s, make my ass look nonexistent, but the Gap 1969 jeans fit me pretty well and hugs my ass to perfection. Also, at that pocket change price, you can afford to wear them guilt-free.

Looking to invest in some high quality jeans. The kind that mold to your body so they have that "perfect fit" that these denim enthusiasts always talk about. Any suggestions, good sir?

This is obvious but when it comes to denim the most important thing to consider is the fit. There are people who will die by APC but if it doesn’t fit you, it doesn’t fit you, so there’s no point in going out and buying a pair of APC denim just because they’re APC.

I don’t own too many raw selvage denim but here are some that I own and like; GAP, which is stupid cheap for the quality. Tellason, the fit is nice, it doesn’t make my ass look like a cutting board and the denim breaks in nicely. Levi’s, the 501s fit me the best. Most Levi’s make my ass completely non-existent but these hug my ass and make me look sexy.

One brand to mention is Rouge Territory. I haven’t purchased one yet, but Dillon swears by it and from the photos I’ve seen on his page, they look like they’re really worth it.

I hope that helps.
